The "Young Endeavour II" is a new Sail Training Vessel to
replace the Royal Australian Navy's brigantine STS "Young
Endeavour". The 52m steel barquentine, commissioned by the
Commonwealth, is built by the Australian shipyard Birdon in Port
Macquarie. The new vessel will accommodate 42 youth crew and 13
staff crew. It will enable Australian Youth to continue
participating in development programs and sailing training under
the Young Endeavor Youth Scheme.
Dykstra Naval Architects is responsible for the design and naval architecture as well as the structural design and detailed engineering of the rigging. Using the advantages of modern materials, the design and use of the barquentine is a true hybrid in the spirit of tradition and a great addition to the tall ship fleet of today.
